The suspension of barriers that repression imposes on the subjective constitution substituted the malaise set off by the insertion into the field of prohibiton, for a void generated by the destitution of ideals and the decay of the symbolic order that thus far ruled social relations. Other imperatives, sustained by ilusory compensations and immediate gratification, temporarily cover up the absence of creative endeavor in stylizing a personal way of being. Singularity was sacrificed when plurarity and globalization acquired a vantage position which is imposed on the contemporary subject. Unconditional adhesion to prêt-à porter prototypes are incessantly enforced. Ever migrating from one demand to the next exhauts this nowadays being, pliable and insufficient to all that is expected of him. His colonized body turned into another utilitarian instrument: his speech is flat, poor in subtlety, secrets or sacredness. He doesn’t represent, but presents, does not identify, incorporates, also doesn’t transfer, but displaces. He lacks authorship and responsability, thus he is apathetic. Or excessive. Little guilt, plenty of impotence and hopelessness. What can Psychoanalysis do for such a subject today?
