Abstract

This article describes and analyzes, based on the theoretical and methodological assumptions of Variationist Sociolinguistics, the alternating uses of the Portuguese second person singular pronouns cê, você, tu in the urban community of Porto Nacional, Tocantins, Brazil. The result of the quantified data showed that the speakers alternate the forms cê and você more frequently, with priority for the use of cê. There were, however, contexts that favored the occurrence of the pronoun você and others in which the use of the reduced form cê has become more significant. Nevertheless, the pronoun tu was little recurrent among the individual participants in this research.

Maria Rilda Alves da Silva Martins is a PhD student in Letters - Linguistic Studies - from the Postgraduate Program in Letters, at the Federal University of Pará, Campus Belém. She is an EBTT Professor at the Federal Institute of Tocantins, Campus - Palmas. Develops research in the area of ​​Variationist Sociolinguistics on the expression of second person singular in Tocantins' speech, linked to the project Construction of the Audiovisual Collection of the Spoken Language in Tocantins, coordinated by Professor Dr. Daniel Marra. Developed the Master Project on the Analysis of the Alternation of the Pronouns tu / você in the speech of Porto Nacional, Tocantins, in the Light of Cognitive Sociolinguistics, under the guidance of Professor Doctor Carine Haupt (UFT) and Coorientation of Professor Doctor Daniel Marra (IFTO / UFT ).

Daniel Marra is a Doctor of Letters and Linguistics (UFG-2012). He is an EBTT Professor at the Federal Institute of Tocantins, Campus Palmas. He is a professor at the Postgraduate Program in Letters at UFT, Porto Nacional Campus. Conducted postdoctoral studies at the Federal University of Goiás (2013-2014) and at the University of Sydney, Australia (2018-2019). Develops research and guides undergraduate and graduate students in Linguistics. Areas of interest: Sociolinguistics, Linguistic Historiography, Philosophy of Linguistics.

Carine Haupt, Federal University of Tocantins (UFT/Brazil)

Carine Haupt holds a PhD in Linguistics from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC-2011). She is an Adjunct Professor at the Federal University of Tocantins, UFT. She works in the Undergraduate course at the Campus of Porto Nacional and in the Postgraduate course at the same Campus, in the area of Theory and Linguistic Analysis, with emphasis on the studies of Phonetics and Phonology. It studies the stable and emerging sound patterns in the state of Tocantins, within a cognitive approach. She is also interested in studies on the application of phonetics and phonology to language teaching.
