Abstract

The aim of this article is to highlight the theoretical and methodological gains, resulting from the interrelationship between Functionalism and the Construction Grammar, especially in the conception that language is structured from a network of interconnected constructions. Indeed, in linguistic analysis both aspects of form and meaning are considered. To illustrate this question, we use the data from the study by Vieira and Sousa (2019) focusing on comparative structures instantiated by the "que nem" connector in Brazilian Portuguese, taking as a sample the speech data from the corpora Popular e Culto from Vitória da Conquista. The results of this work showed that the comparative subschema, governed by "que nem", instantiates two microconstructions, one of them characterized by the [+ orational] anchorage, and the other marked by the [- orational] relation. In general, we found that all analyzed microconstructions share the comparative formal-meaning configuration, allied to cognitive factors and subjectivity.
