We seek to answer whether manipulation of the consonant-vowel (CV) transition zone in the acoustic signal has an effect on the perception of obstruents and vowels [a], [i], [u], in BP. Our aim was to describe the effect of manipulating this CV transition zone on the perception of obstruents and vowels. We performed the acoustic signal manipulation and applied perception tasks with original stimulus and manipulated stimulus (cutting the transition zone from obstruents to vowels) to assess the recoverability rate of obstruents and vowels [a, i, u]. Our results show that the manipulation of the CV transition zone can alter the perception of traces of voice, point and mode of articulation of the obstruents while that same manipulation does not have any effect on the perception of the vowels. Our hypothesis is partially proven considering: we did not observe changes in the perception of vowels, only in the obstruents.
