Abstract

The aim of this article is discuss the paratopia concept and, from it, analyze Manuel Bandeira’s (MB) chronicles. It is part of a larger research that studies this production taking to account the Discourse Analysis about the literary field, specially the theoretical framework proposed by Maingueneau (2006). The analyst considers the paratopia a paradoxical space and warns that paratopia only exists if integrated into a creative process. In our analysis, we examine aspects related to the construction of a creative identity that belongs and does not belong to society, the modalities of paratopia elaborated by the way the MB writer inserts himself in the literary space of his time (the modernist positioning), the identification of the author with the marginal and excluded, with paratopic "characters" and, also, what would be the paratopic engine of his work (the illness and the escape to Pasargada).

Jauranice Rodrigues Cavalcanti , Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro (UFTM / Brazil)

Jauranice Rodrigues Cavalcanti has a master's degree in Letters from USP, a PhD in Linguistics from Unicamp. She did postdoctoral studies in Linguistics at UNICAMP. She is a professor at the Letters Course and at the Postgraduate Program in Letters at the Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro (UFTM). She is a member of the FEsTA Research Center - Formulas and Stereotypes: Theory and Analysis, at Unicamp. His research is concentrated in the areas of teaching of the Native Language and Discourse Analysis.
