Abstract

 Reading fluency is an important feature for the critical reader to recover the prosodic variations present in the text. Thus, our work seeks to verify and evaluate the prosodic behavior of 5th grade elementary students in a public school in Vitória da Conquista - Bahia when MPLs come before and / or after the target phrase. Our hypothesis is that 5th year students are not yet able to produce the height lexical markers, namely: screamed and whispered, which are under the scope of different phrases in different positions. A study was carried out with the oral productions of the text - adapted - by João and Maria by the students. A public school in a peripheral neighborhood was selected in order to analyze the extent to which informants are able to produce MPLs that are under the scope of different phrases and in different positions. The collected material was selected and analyzed according to the students' education level, and then the acoustic and statistical analyzes were performed. It was verified that the research participants are unable to implement the variation when the MPLs are placed in front and also when the MPLs are placed. The results are discussed considering the role of reading prosody and reading fluency. Although our analyzes strengthen and confirm our hypothesis, they point to the fact that the evaluated subjects are still unable to implement the prosodic variations of the MPLs.
