In this paper, we analyze the expression of violence in Apuleius' The Golden Ass, specifically considering its manifestation throughout the first tale within the tale, the Aristomenes’ tale. From this analysis, we hope to reveal how certain literary elements first developed in the accessory tale and then introduced and elaborated throughout the main story. Among these elements, there is the insertion of violence; the inherent relationship between laetaberis and violentia; the space composed by epidemic violent outlines; and the animal metamorphosis as a maximum punishment and longest violence event in the novel.
