Genre and authorship in the preface of Epitome of Philippic History od Pompeius Trogus

The abbreviation of works was a practice that crossed the ancient Greek and Latin world, meeting different needs. However, the reception of the texts produced by this practice has varied, since, for a long time, it was considered that they have a secondary importance in comparison with the ones that served as a source, which are often lost. From reading the preface of Epitome of the Philippic History of Pompeius Trogus, we propose considerations about its configuration as an abbreviation and its consequences for the identification of Justinus’ work as authorial.
