Abstract

In an interdisciplinary perspective of the science of language and law, this article discusses the results of a study on the simplification of legal language as a way to democratize access to justice, under the vision of professionals in the legal context of Cruz Alta - RS. The study is justified by the fact that there is a great difficulty on the part of society in the understanding of legal expressions, which hinders access to justice. The data show an advance in the acceptance and exercise of the simplification of the legal language, previously practically unacceptable by many operators of the law.

Antonio Escandiel de Souza, University of Cruz Alta (Unicruz/Brazil)

Antonio Escandiel de Souza holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics (UFRGS). He is an assistant coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Sociocultural Practices and Social Development of the University of Cruz Alta; is professor of the discipline of Language and Society in the Graduate Program and professor of the discipline of Communicative Competence of the Law Course of UNICRUZ; is coordinator of the Project financed by FAPERGS and first leader of the Group of Language Studies (GEL / UNICRUZ).

Carla Rosane da Silva Tavares Alves, University of Cruz Alta (Unicruz/Brazil)

Carla Rosane da Silva Tavares Alves holds a PhD in Comparative Literature (UFRGS). She is a professor and coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Sociocultural Practices and Social Development of the University of Cruz Alta. She is the second research leader of the GEL-UNICRUZ Research Group and collaborator of the Project.

Andrea Moser Keitel holds a Masters in Law (UNISINOS). She is Coordinator of the Law Course of the University of Cruz Alta.

Ana Luísa Moser Keitel is an academic of the Law Course of the University of Cruz Alta. Scholarship Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (FAPERGS). She is a researcher at the Scientific Initiation level of the Group of Linguistic Studies (GEL/UNICRUZ).
