Created in 1969, the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou, Fespaco, is a key part in the history of African cinema. The elements that build its history have served both as a thermometer of cinematic trends and as targeting of the cultural policies of the continent's film paths for filmmakers, curators, researchers and scholars. Moreover, its history connects directly with the events and debates at continent political development. This article presents some of the elements that intertwine the development of African cinema to the history of Fespaco, in order to assemble not only a historical overview of the Festival but also provide a means to understand the development stage of film production in Africa.
Keywords: African Cinema, Fespaco, African History.
