“Zumbi-Exu” and other identity issues in “the zombie head”

This work investigates the presence of the figure of Zumbi of the Palmares in the tale "The head of Zumbi", of Alberto Mussa, trying, at the same time, to understand historical and cultural aspects present and to explore the association between the mythical historical figure of Zumbi and the one of the orixá Exu . Initially, to situate and size the importance of the hero of Palmares for the history of the Negro in Brazil and to dimension the question of our identity formation, we use thoughts of Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, Gilberto Freyre and Stuart Hall, among others. Then, we focus on the story and the relationship between Zumbi and Exu, made by Conceição Evaristo in the presentation of the book, to deepen it from information collected in the works of Reginaldo Prandi, Roger Bastide and Vagner Gonçalves da Silva and from critical observations made by Moema Augel.
