Considerations on the influences of conservative religious thought on brazilian education

This article seeks to expand the discussion on the relationship between religion, education and the State in Brazil, from a historical, sociological and philosophical perspective. Starting from classic concepts of sociology and philosophy, such as the thoughts of Marx, Weber and Durkheim, the text explores the influence of religious thought on social and political formation, highlighting the importance of religion as a phenomenon that transcends the individual and affects the collective. The analysis focuses on religious education in Brazil, from its colonial origins to the present day, discussing the tension between the secularism of the State and the presence of religious dogmas in the educational system. The article also addresses the recent decision of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) that authorizes confessional religious education in public schools, reflecting on the impacts of this measure on pluralism and religious freedom. Finally, a critical reflection is proposed on the need to rethink the role of religion in education, considering the multiple social, cultural and political dimensions involved.
