Abstract

This article investigates the challenges, barriers, and opportunities faced by women with disabilities in their pursuit of full recognition in the labor market in Palmas, Tocantins. Based on Nancy Fraser’s theory of recognition, the study seeks to understand how these women perceive themselves within professional environments. The research emphasizes the intersectionality between gender and disability and highlights the inequalities this group faces in both employment access and career advancement. A qualitative methodology was applied through interviews that revealed the main obstacles encountered by these women. These barriers include discrimination, lack of accessible infrastructure, and inadequate support. Furthermore, the interviews explored participants’ perceptions regarding the skills and qualifications demanded by the job market, as well as strategies to enhance their professional capabilities. The findings underscore the urgency of more targeted and effective policies that take into account the intersection of gender and disability. The interviews also revealed a structural problem in labor relations, marked by a culture of stigmatization within institutions. This condition hinders the recognition and appreciation of these women.
