Abstract

This article describes how a methodological tool we collectively developed allows us to reflect deeply on how territories are constructed through care practices. These practices are linked to a set of movements associated with the care and maintenance of life, as well as the care of children, the elderly, and dependent individuals. In different contexts, we have found that these tasks are complemented by care for the land and the non-human living beings that cohabit it. We analyze the results of care mapping applied to women defenders of urban and rural territories, members of the Mesoamerican Network for the Defense of Territory. These results highlight the inequality in the distribution of care; however, they also reveal community-based ecoterritorial strategies that allow us to rethink the meaning of territorialities based on care.
