Research and knowledge production on quilombos: interview with José Maurício Arruti

Quilombos research has expanded considerably in recent years, incorporating different theoretical frameworks. Among the researchers who have contributed to the renewal of studies on quilombola communities is José Maurício Arruti, doctor in Social Anthropology (UFRJ) and professor at the State University of Campinas. Professor Arruti researches quilombola communities and indigenous peoples, especially on the themes of Politics of Recognition, Territory, Memory and Education. Below, we present the interview he gave, in which he discusses aspects of his training trajectory, the production of knowledge about quilombola communities, the insertion in research on the theme, the main difficulties faced by these communities in the current context of gradual loss of rights. We ended the interview with Professor Arruti, pointing out his current teaching and research interests.
