Abstract

The intellectual frame of the School of Chartres in the first half of the twelfth century was one of the most fruitful and
notorious within the History of Medieval Philosophy. Its sociocultural conditions, however, deserve attention to improve the
philosophical and social studies of the period, paying attention to the institutional organization and the men who made up
the school's teaching staff, as well as their roles within the development of philosophy and mentality during this period of the
scholasticism. The accounts of John of Salisbury, the works of Chartrean philosophers, as well as the specialized
bibliography, will help to expose what the intellectual overview of the school was like in its peak.
