The aim of the study was to assess older adults' knowledge regarding proper walking practices. This was a descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional study with a qualitative approach, involving 35 older adults (aged 60 or older) who had been walking outdoors for more than three months. Data collection involved a socio-biodemographic questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The questionnaire data were analyzed descriptively, while the interview data were analyzed using Bardin’s descriptive content analysis. The results showed that the majority of participants were white women aged 60 to 69 with a high school education; most were married, retired, and diagnosed with systemic arterial hypertension. A significant number had been walking for over 10 years, 5 to 6 times a week, for 1 to 2 hours; while they paid attention to their diet before and after walking, they did not maintain adequate hydration. The following categories emerged from the interviews: 1. Motivation for walking; 2. Guidance on walking practices; and 3. Risks associated with walking without guidance. The study revealed that while healthcare professionals prescribe walking to improve older adults' health, there is a need for more in-depth guidance and monitoring to ensure the activity is performed correctly and safely.
