Abstract

The objective of the study was to analyze the experiences of Brazilian women who experienced obstetric violence, identifying physical, emotional, and social impacts, and to reflect on their perceptions of care during childbirth. The methodology used was an integrative literature review in the SciELO and BVS databases, including LILACS and BDENF, with the descriptors “Women,” “Labor,” and “Obstetric Violence” combined by the AND operator. Articles in Portuguese published between 2020 and 2025 with primary data on women who experienced childbirth were included. After screening and full reading, six studies composed the final sample. The results showed that obstetric violence is recurrent, including episiotomy without consent, Kristeller maneuver, verbal offenses, and denial of a companion, mainly affecting young, Black, and low-educated women. Many do not recognize these practices as violence, reinforcing their invisibility and normalization. It is concluded that it is essential to strengthen the humanized training of professionals and promote policies that ensure respectful and woman-centered childbirth.
