Compliance with Open Science
Since 2017, Geopauta has been seeking to adopt practices that align with Open Science, whether in the processes involving research, its production, evaluation and dissemination, from the article itself to data and other related elements. The journal accepts the submission of preprints as long as the authors follow the instructions and conditions for submission (see the “preprints” topic). The journal adopts the Gold Open Access model, that is, all articles are open access, end-to-end, available free of charge, on the Geopauta, website, on SciELO, on Redalyc and other repositories. Authors must observe the items contained in the Form on Compliance with Open Science at the time of submission.
Publication Ethics
Authors must follow all the rules contained in the submission section. Submitting an article to Geopauta implies that the author agrees with the terms established and undertakes to declare that the ethical guidelines and procedures were respected at all stages of the research. If there is funding, the research agencies that provided support must be informed. In applicable cases, the author must declare that the research was submitted to and approved by an ethics committee. For research conducted in a virtual environment, it is suggested that authors follow the guidelines established by CONEP. For research originating from other countries, an equivalent document should be consulted or Geopauta should be contacted. The proper conduct and observance of good ethical practices in research are the author's responsibility.
Geopauta adheres to the Deia principles, the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the SciELO Codes of Ethics and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). DORA, Latindex and Redalyc principles.
Digital Preservation
This journal follows the standards defined in the Digital Preservation Policy of the SciELO Program, uses the PKP PN, System, the LOCKSS digital preservation system that provides the basis for robust digital preservation of all types of digital content for libraries, publishers and other content providers and administrators, and the CLOCKSS system to preserve the entire journal archive.
Editorial Policy
Geopauta accepts the publication of preprint articles. Articles submitted in the SciELO and Elsevier PrePrints preprint format will be accepted, provided that the authors follow the Journal's submission rules at the time of submission. Please note that the submission of the Preprint article will be evaluated according to the Journal's standards. Articles submitted in the preprint format must follow the Open Science Compliance Form.
Authors who submit articles in SciELO Preprints and/or other public preprint platforms must indicate whether they want the article to be evaluated by Geopauta. If this indication is made, the Geopauta journal's editorial board will apply the steps described in the Geopauta peer review criteria section. Therefore, if the article submitted in the preprint system has met the journal's minimum conditions, it will be forwarded for review by the editorial board. At this stage of the evaluation, the reviewer must indicate whether or not he/she agrees with the disclosure of the name in the report. If so, the report must be signed by the reviewer whose name will be disclosed in the preprint system.
Peer review process
The articles received in the submission of the Geopauta journal will undergo a technical review. Before being sent for evaluation and, in this case, they may be rejected in this first stage of submission. To ensure the integrity of the blind peer review, all possible care must be taken not to reveal the identity of authors and reviewers to each other during the process. Thus: Authors should exclude the names of the text replacing by “author” and year in notes, article titles in parts of the text content. The identification of the authors must be removed from the properties of the Word document (in the menu File>Properties), starting in File, in the main menu, clicking in the sequence: File>Save as...>Tools, Save.
First, a careful analysis of the article will be carried out by the editorial board of the magazine, observing the relevance of the theme, the general technical norms of the Magazine exposed in the scope of article submission; in the magazine's template, followed by a rigorous evaluation of Geopauta's editorial standards. The evaluation of the article will be based on the originality, scientific relevance, correctness, clarity and graphic quality of the illustrations, among others.
Subsequently, the articles approved in this first stage will be sent for evaluation by external reviewers or the scientific council of the journal chosen in the double-blind system by specialty and/or affinity to the subject of the works to be appreciated, such works can be evaluated and re-evaluated according to the need indicated in each opinion and according to the referrals of the journal's editorial committee.
The journal provides an evaluation form that will be sent to the ad hoc reviewers. The opinions may be recommended for publication, recommended with mandatory correction/revision of the text or not recommended for publication. In the case of an article with a non-recommended review, it may be forwarded for evaluation at a later stage if it is deemed relevant by the editorial committee for the journal's publication themes.
Works received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must register the declaration of conflict of interest, available in the evaluation form. They must also maintain the confidentiality of any information provided by the editor or author, without retaining any copies of the manuscript. They should not use information or ideas obtained in reading the works for their own benefit.
After sending the opinions, the authors will be informed of the editorial decision. If changes are requested, the authors must pay attention to the deadlines established for sending the corrected version of the article. The article will only be published upon submission of corrections and/or justifications for non-alteration and in this case it is up to the editorial committee to decide on the reassessment of the article for publication or not. The editorial committee will forward to the author(s) the changes received in the opinion, the referees can propose correction, deletion and or add excerpts and sections, point out ambiguous, redundant, incoherent descriptions or misuse of terminology and concepts, etc. The opinions have a consultative character, and the submission editor is responsible for the final decision on the publication of the article..

Articles submitted for evaluation will undergo a technical review for plagiarism analysis on the Plagium platform and always compared with other anti-plagiarism applications, including CopyspIder available on the UESB. journal portal. The editorial team checks the data and scans the entire text of the docx file submitted by the author. In the case of direct plagiarism (copy and paste), the article will be returned to the author, indicating the problem. In the case of similarities that exceed 20% of the total text written without due citation, the manuscript will be returned to the author to make the necessary changes and resubmit the article to the journal.
Adoption of software using Artificial Intelligence resources.
Geopauta Journal establishes that only humans can be authors of submitted articles. AI tools can assist in the preparation, drafting, reviewing and translation of texts. We will use the AI Plagium IA detector to check whether artificial intelligence was used in the production of the article text. If it is proven that the text is from artificial intelligence, the article will be returned to the author. For more information, see the: Scielo Guide to the use of Artificial Intelligence tools and resources
Gender Policy
Geopauta’s editorial team, in addition to the authors who publish in the journal, must always follow the guidelines on Sex and Gender Equity in Research – SAGER (SAGER).
