This article presents NEIDE, an artificial intelligence-based tool developed for the identification of Unconventional Food Plants (UFPs), and discusses its potential for pedagogical practices in biodiversity education. The research was structured in three stages: development and training of a computer vision model, creation of educational materials, and systematization of teaching applications. The results indicate that NEIDE has the potential to promote species literacy, enhance attention to biodiversity, and support active learning methodologies, especially in school gardens and food education contexts. Despite limitations, such as the restricted number of species and the lack of empirical evaluation, the tool proves promising for integrating technology and education, contributing to overcoming plant blindness and promoting food biodiversity awareness.
