Abstract

The effect of copper and iron incorporation methodology on zirconia-based catalysts toward nitric oxide reduction by using carbon monoxide as reducing agent was studied in this work. The materials were characterized by several techniques and it was observed that all of them were active in the reaction between 200 and 500 °C. The methodology used on the support preparation led to a mixture of monoclinic and tetragonal phases of zirconium oxide. The solid prepared has shown high specific surface area, regardless of methodology of metal incorporation. It was observed that the coimpregnation of metals led to a greater interaction level between copper oxide and iron oxide, indicating a synergic effect, which has led to the formation of more reduced catalytic sites on the surface, which are favorable for chemisorption and activation of molecules of carbon monoxide and nitric oxide, making this preparation method the most suitable to obtain active and selective catalysts for the reduction of nitric oxide by using carbon monoxide as reduction agent.
