Studying the chemical and physical properties of minerals from Brumado - Bahia

Abstract

Students' difficulties in assimilating content taught in a decontextualized manner in the Chemistry discipline constitute a daily challenge. Aiming to reverse this situation, the didactic sequence presented was developed in a first-year class of the Environmental Technician course, of the CEEP axis in Management and Environment, which aimed to study the fundamental principles of the chemical and physical properties of matter, identifying them in the minerals present in the soil of Brumado–BA. The methodology included bibliographic and qualitative research, theoretical and practical classes, sample collection, technical visit and assembly of structural formulas that served as input for the development of the electronic book educational product. Due to its low cost, easy applicability and working with a topic related to the students' reality, this teaching sequence proved to be effective, allowing students to understand and understand the importance of the chemical and physical properties of matter. Students enjoyed autonomy during the pedagogical stages, contributing to the development of understanding and absorption of the theoretical concepts of the contents studied, and their relationship with minerals, thus supporting their economic and social importance for the municipality.
