Abstract

In this work, cerium and iron oxide (hematite) were prepared by using precipitation techniques of the metal precursors. Hematite containing different cerium contents were also prepared, which were also obtained by coprecipitation of the metal precursors. The reductive characteristics of all the samples were investigated using hydrogen temperature-programmed reduction. The results showed that the addition of cerium to the hematite structure promoted a synergistic interaction process between the FeCe species, increasing the reducibility of the mixed solids of cerium and iron, compared to the pure oxides of iron and cerium. Thus, these results indicate that the materials may be useful in several catalytic processes in which this type of interaction is necessary.
