Water is a fundamental substance for life and, therefore, this topic needs to be widely debated at school, so that students understand its importance from an early age. The present study aimed to describe the awareness actions developed with students from an Elementary School, class in a rural school, about the importance of water. This descriptive and exploratory study had a qualitative approach, even if using some numerical data that served to illustrate one of the actions. Its development took place during the first semester of 2019, involving 10 students from the 5th year of Elementary School at Campo Sol Nascente School, in the municipality of Confresa/MT. After a moment of debate and extensive reflection, the students investigated what 20 residents and traders of the Confresa Roncador Settlement Project the way they use water and what they think about the subject. These data were collected through a questionnaire, consisting of five questions. After the research, the students debated the results, built homemade filters and devised ways to raise awareness among the local community about the numerous problems, among them the lack of water, which, among so many factors, is also influenced by misuse, causing wastage.
