Abstract

Assessment of seasonal changes in chemical parameters is an important aspect for evaluating temporal variations of lentic ecosystem (lakes and reservoirs) due to anthropogenic activities. In this study, six metals and four physicochemical parameters were evaluated, collected from fourteen sampling sites in two seasons and three depths in the Tucuruí reservoir (Tocantins River-PA). The heavy metals monitoring was done with the inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). Different multivariate statistical techniques were employed to evaluate the seasonal correlations of physicochemical parameters and metals. The seasonality influence for the temperature, pH, conductivity, Al, Fe and Mn was demonstrated by Single Factor ANOVA analysis. Turbidity and Ba showed no significant differences between two periods. The temperature and Fe in the rainy season were influenced by the depth of the water column that was not a determinant in the variability of most parameters.
