Abstract

In GC, the use of metrics focus on the evaluation of how green a wide range of developed processes are. One of the metrics is the Green Star (GS), it is considered holistic because it seeks to understand the phenomena in its totality and globality. The GS is the most recommended metric to work in the teaching of chemistry, taking into account its pedagogical implications, simplicity and various potentialities that can be explored. This study aimed to know and apply the concepts of GC analyzing the activities performed in the components of Experimental Analytical Chemistry (EAC), Qualitative and Quantitative. For this purpose, the GS metric was used in order to analyze the experimental practices regarding its chemical “verdura”, measured by the Star Fill Index (SFI), according to the principles of GC. Based on the results, suggestions were made to improve the SFI and consequently make the practices performed in EAC sustainable. The application of the GS metric, in this work, proved to be efficient in assessing the risks and the “verdura” of the practices performed in EAC. It emerges as a proposal to insert the principles of GC in the formation of Chemistry teachers also it aims to recommend a change of mentality in chemistry practice, always at the lowest possible risk.
