Abstract

The objective of this research is to comparatively analyze two distinct REDD+ initiative models and their potential impacts on the territory. The Amazon Fund and the Carbon Fair platform were selected as representative cases of interest for analysis. A neo-institutionalist theoretical framework was used, focusing on the institutionalization of decision-making mechanisms and flows as an explanatory variable for the dynamics of project implementation and their impacts on social reality and the environment. Documentary research was used, through content analysis, with legislation, internal standards and procedures, and information available on the respective websites. It became clear that the forms of institutional structuring, financing, participation of social stakeholders, and application of socio-environmental safeguards have decisive effects on how these projects materialize in the territories and impact traditional communities.
