The objective of this study was to investigate social interaction combined with physical exercise as predictors of healthy aging among older adults participating in an interdisciplinary research and outreach Center. Methods: This is an extension project using a research-action approach with fifteen elderly individuals dealing with chronic non-communicable diseases. The study was conducted through a 12-week resistance exercise intervention plan, with a frequency of two sessions per week, evaluated based on the RE-AIM framework. Results: The narrated experiences highlighted how the inseparability of research and community outreach contributes to human care in elderly groups. The intervention promoted an increase in muscle strength and mental health benefits, positively impacting the participants' perception of quality of life. Conclusion: It is concluded that the intervention contributed to proximal care, fostering professional practice regarding the impacts of the action on functional capacity, independence, and autonomy, thereby enhancing healthy and active aging.
