Abstract

In this study,basing on theoretical and methodological assumptions of Linguistic Historiography, the objective is to make some considerations on the conceptions of the word term in two decisive moments in the history of linguistic studies, namely, the publication, in 1660, the Port-Royal Grammar, by Arnauld and Lancelot, as an example of the rise of a spiritually Cartesian modernity,and the consolidation and deployment of structuralist thought, having as highlight the theoretical and methodological turnaround caused by contemporary studies in the area of Linguistic Typology.
