The Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn. is a naturalized species in Brazil commonly called a vinagreira, is a member of the Malvacea family, presenting compounds with pharmacological properties of great interest to the industry, for example, chlorogenic acid. Chlorogenic acid is a compound present in the species with important pharmacological properties, acting as a therapeutic agent in several dysfunctions, such as, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, obesity and fatty liver. In this sense, the production of this compound through promising alternatives is of great importance. The in vitro callus culture of medicinal plants is a promising biotechnological tool that provides sterile and controlled environmental conditions for the production of medicinal compounds with high quality unlike in natura cultivation. Thus, the objective of this article was to investigate the presence of chlorogenic acid in fresh leaves and in vitro callus culture of Hibiscus sabdariffa L., using the High Performance Liquid Chromatography analytical method. The results showed that the analytical tool was able to identify chlorogenic acid, in addition, the results obtained for the callus culture of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. promoted the production of chlorogenic acid, being a valuable biotechnological tool for sustainable production
