Da Europa à Ásia, das Américas ao continente africano: moedas, feiras e bancos nos Impérios da Era Moderna (Séculos XV-XIX)

Resumo

Usando como trampolim o surgimento dos sistemas monetários e bancários, neste estudo examinar-se-ão as dinâmicas plurisseculares, globais e paralelas – por vezes, sem nunca se cruzarem – que fizeram com que surgissem sistemas financeiros com a finalidade de servir a nação, quer no seu crescimento interno quer nas suas ramificações externas, ambos a garantirem a estabilidade económica nacional e (trans)regional. Factores políticos e razões sociológicas (incluindo a religião) servirão de guia na nossa análise de algumas sociedades globais que, entre o século XV e o século XIX, conseguiram criar um império e impor o seu modelo económico. Exemplos elucidativos das numerárias, dos alborques e sistemas bancários instituídos e perpetuados por poderes do novo mundo, do velho continente, da Ásia e do continente africano ajudar-nos-ão a compreender as dinâmicas que sustentaram estas potências que subsistiam e atingiriam o seu esplendor e apogeu entre o século XV e o século XIX.
