This article discusses the grammar teaching in the classroom, emphasizing the importance of context, the practice of text and the respect that society should have for all forms of language use. We intend to demystify the thought that the standard pattern gives status and power to the speaker. As a methodological procedure, we do the bibliographic review showing the similarities that the authors cited in the text have about the definition of grammar and about the real importance of learning grammar rules. They are presented some points that difficult and discouraging the work with mother language in the classroom. There are some suggestions about practices that can be applied in the teaching of mother tongue, becoming the students active in the acquisition of their knowledge, and not being a mere spectator the teaching and learning.
