The article explains the approach by Deleuze and Guattari on Hjelmslev’s Linguistics, in particular his notion of matter. The aim is to understand how the authors go beyond the separation between the content and expression planes by proposing the notion of abstract machine, which demonstrates how the reciprocal presupposition of plains explains the production of meaning in a new regime of signs.
