About the Journal
Focus and Scope
General guidelines for publication in Revista Práxis Educacional
Práxis Educacional is an ongoing, electronic academic journal affiliated with the Graduate Program in Education (PPGEd) at the State University of Southwest Bahia (Uesb). It publishes original articles resulting from scientific research, as well as book reviews. The journal does not accept literature review manuscripts or similar. Its primary objective is to disseminate research and studies related to the field of education, developed by scholars from various educational contexts in Brazil and abroad. The journal does not charge any publication fees.
Process of Evaluation
The evaluation of manuscripts consists of a two-stage process (desk review and double-blind review) in accordance with the Guidelines for Authors.
Stage 1: Preliminary Desk Review
Prior to peer review, the editorial office verifies that all metadata have been properly entered into the submission system (see the submission tutorial* at https://scribehow.com/shared/Tutorial_submissao__Revista_Praxis_Educacional__GbQwHQdSTKOCd_oDw3_bQA). Failure to complete metadata fields correctly will result in immediate rejection.
* available only in Brazilian Portuguese.
Editorial compliance is assessed based on the following quality criteria:
a) strict adherence to current formatting and style standards;
b) assignment of bibliometric indicators to authors (e.g., H-index**);
c) relevance and currency of references, capped at 30 citations, with no more than 10% self-citations and at least 40% of citations from the last five years;
d) originality of the topic: verification that it has not been addressed previously in Práxis Educacional or, if it has, demonstration of how it engages in scholarly dialogue with those works.

Manuscripts are also checked for alignment with the journal’s technical scope:
a) general technical norms of the journal;
b) authorship: at least one author with a doctoral degree; co-authors may be doctoral candidates, masters, or doctors;
c) length requirements:
-
- Articles: 15–25 pages (excluding abstract and references), approximately 10,000 words or 55,000 characters.
- Book reviews: 3–5 pages (approx. 15,000 characters).
- Interviews: up to 55,000 characters.
Also according to editorial standards:
- abstract (100–250 words) and 3–5 keywords in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.
- references formatted strictly according to ABNT or APA style; no hybrid formats.
- complete authorship data in both the template and the system: full name, academic degree, affiliation (city/state/country), research group, valid ORCID, email, and statement of individual contributions (see point 1.29 of the general publication instructions).
- rigorous observance of ABNT (or APA, where applicable).
Stage 2: Double-Blind Review
If a manuscript passes the desk review, it is sent to two ad hoc reviewers for blind peer review. Reviewers use a standardized evaluation form with clear assessment criteria.
- Dual approval by both reviewers is required for acceptance.
- In case of conflicting opinions, a third blind reviewer is appointed.
- If disagreement persists, the editorial team issues a consolidated decision.
To preserve anonymity, authors must submit two separate files during initial submission:
- A .doc or .docx file in the journal template with author identification (max 2 MB).
- A .doc or .docx file in the journal template without any author identification (max 2 MB).
Authors should remove all personal metadata from document properties. Detection of author information in anonymous files will lead to automatic rejection.
At the end of each year, the names of all ad hoc reviewers are published in the journal.
Periodicity
Starting in 2022, the journal began publishing approved articles and reviews on a continuous basis, with new content released monthly.
Open Access Policy
This journal offers immediate open access to its entire content, adhering to the principle that freely disseminating scientific knowledge fosters greater global democratization of learning.
Authorization for Publication of Works
Authors who publish in this journal agree to the following terms and must submit both a declaration of originality and a publication authorization form, signed electronically via Gov.br (or, when necessary, another valid e-signature service). If a valid electronic signature cannot be provided, the corresponding personal document must be submitted to validate physical signatures.
Authors retain copyright and grant the journal first-publication rights, licensing their work simultaneously under CC BY 4.0. This license permits anyone to share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format, for any purpose, even commercially) and adapt (remix, transform, and build upon the material, for any purpose, even commercially). These rights cannot be revoked provided the license terms are respected.
Authors may enter into separate, non-exclusive agreements for distribution of the published version (e.g., in an institutional repository or as a book chapter), provided proper attribution is given to both the authors and the original journal publication.
Authors are also permitted to disseminate their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on personal websites), as this can lead to productive adaptations and increase both impact and citation.
Plagiarism Detection Policy
The journal employs the CopySypder software to detect plagiarism and textual similarity in all submitted manuscripts.
