GENERAL RULES FOR SUBMISSION TO THE JOURNAL PRÁXIS EDUCACIONAL
Práxis Educacional is an electronic continuous-flow journal of the Graduate Program in Education (PPGEd) at the State University of Southwest Bahia (Uesb). It publishes original research articles and book reviews. Systematic literature reviews are accepted only if they offer novel directions for future research. Its central aim is to disseminate educational research conducted by scholars from diverse Brazilian and international contexts. The journal does not charge any publication fees.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR PUBLICATION
1.1 Only original manuscripts reporting scientific research in the field of education will be published. Submissions must follow the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) current on the date of submission:
- NBR 6022 – Article in printed periodical
- NBR 6028 – Abstract, review, and critique
- NBR 10520 – Citations in documents
- NBR 14724 – Preparation of academic papers
- NBR 6023 – References
1.2 For evaluation, manuscripts are accepted only from doctoral degree holders, doctoral candidates, and master’s degree holders affiliated with institutions of higher education or other educational settings (social movements, schools, NGOs, etc.). At least one author must hold a doctoral degree.
1.3 At submission, authors must upload:
- The publication authorization form, if the manuscript is approved by the Scientific Committee and Editorial Board.
- A signed statement of originality.
Both documents must bear the signatures of all authors (only electronic signatures generated via Gov.br or an equivalent system are valid). Templates are available on the journal’s website under About > Policies > Publication Authorization.
1.4 Each manuscript (article or review) will undergo double-blind peer review by the Scientific Committee. If reviewers disagree, a third reviewer will be consulted until consensus is reached. In exceptional cases, the Editor-in-Chief may issue a “consolidation decision.”
1.5 Authors will be notified via the submission system of acceptance or rejection at each review stage (desk review and double-blind review).
1.6 Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively through the journal portal (http://periodicos2.uesb.br/index.php/praxis). Submissions via other channels are not permitted.
1.7 For desk review, the submission must include all of the following files (incomplete submissions will be automatically rejected):
During initial submission
- A .doc or .docx file in the journal template identifying the authors (max. 2 MB).
- A .doc or .docx file in the journal template without author identification (max. 2 MB).
- A single PDF file containing the signed statements of originality and publication authorization (electronic signatures via Gov.br or equivalent).
If a valid electronic signature is not available, the original signed document must be included as proof. - All illustrative elements (tables, photos, drawings, maps, diagrams, graphs, etc.) as separate files named according to their appearance (e.g., Fig1.jpg). Each file must be in JPG format, at least 300 dpi, and not exceed 2 MB.
- When human subjects are involved, a copy of the ethics committee approval or the corresponding footnote in the manuscript indicating the approval number.
Upon manuscript approval (if corrections are requested)
- A .doc or .docx file in the journal template identifying the authors, with tracked changes clearly indicating all revisions (max. 2 MB).
- A .doc or .docx file in the journal template identifying the authors, with all corrections finalized and fully formatted according to the template (max. 2 MB).
Upon manuscript approval (no corrections requested)
- Any additional file updates will be communicated to the submitting author via the system.
1.8 All illustrative elements (photos, drawings, figures, images, maps, diagrams, graphs, tables, etc.) must be in JPG format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Files must be named to match their caption (e.g., Quadro 1, Figura 1, Gráfico 1).
1.9 In the main text, all figures and tables must be referenced in order before their appearance, labeled with their title (e.g., Graph 1 – XXXX), followed immediately by the legend and source (maximum three lines, e.g., Source: own elaboration). Maps must include scale bars and graphic legends. For original research material, use “Source: research data” or “Source: own elaboration.” Otherwise, cite the original data source, ensuring proper licensing or reproduction permissions.
1.10 Tables, numbered sequentially, must be created in black and white using the word processor’s table tools. Editable files only—tables as images are not accepted under any circumstances.
1.11 Reproduction of illustrative elements, tables, charts, and graphs from other publications will be accepted only if accompanied by written permission from the copyright holder of the original work, or by an indication of a valid copyright or Creative Commons license.
1.12 Mathematical formulas presented as images must be treated as figures; otherwise, they must be created using the word processor’s native equation editor.
1.13 Footnotes should serve only explanatory purposes in concise text and should be used sparingly. Bibliographic notes are not permitted. Footnotes must be numbered sequentially in Arabic numerals, inserted via the automatic footnote function, placed at the bottom of the page in 10-point font, left-aligned, single-spaced, and limited to 300 characters (including spaces) each.
1.14 Acknowledgment notes must appear at the end of the text, before the references, and may only specify support from institutions or funding agencies. They must not refer directly or indirectly to authorship.
1.15 No appendices or annexes of any kind are permitted after the references.
1.16 Manuscript length must adhere strictly to the template’s pagination. Non-compliant files will not be evaluated in the desk review and will be automatically rejected:
- Research articles: minimum 15 pages (excluding references) and maximum 25 pages (including references).
- Book reviews: minimum 3 pages and maximum 5 pages.
1.17 All submissions must undergo careful language proofreading before being sent to the journal.
1.18 Only submissions formatted according to current ABNT standards (for work conducted in Brazil) or APA Style (for work conducted abroad) will be forwarded to the Scientific Committee. Manuscripts that deviate from these citation and reference standards will not pass desk review and will be automatically rejected.
1.19 To ensure author and reviewer anonymity in the double-blind review, the anonymized template file must contain no information that could identify authors or affiliations. Use “XXX” in place of author or institution names. Reviewers’ files must also omit their identity before returning to authors.
1.20 All manuscripts will be assessed by the Editorial Board for compliance with journal policies and will either be rejected or sent to Scientific Committee members for double-blind peer review.
1.21 The Editorial Board decides on the timing and opportunity for publication of manuscripts approved by the Scientific Committee.
1.22 Once approved, manuscripts may be published as articles or reviews, provided they conform to the standard of the language in which they are written. A final professional copyedit—arranged and paid for by the authors—is required.
1.23 The journal reserves the right not to publish articles or reviews by the same author(s) or co-author(s) within a one-year interval.
1.24 The journal retains copyright for all articles it publishes.
1.25 The publication ethics policy follows National Health Council Resolution No. 196/1996 for human-subjects research and ensures authors receive the final editorial decision.
1.26 Reviewer evaluation criteria include abstract quality (objective, theoretical framework or methodology, results), internal consistency, title relevance, analytical rigor, scientific relevance, originality, and adherence to formal language standards.
1.27 If necessary, approved manuscripts may undergo minor edits to improve the text.
1.28 Each article or review may have up to three authors, all affiliated with research groups and holding master’s, doctoral, or doctoral-candidate status, with at least one author holding a doctorate. In justified cases, a maximum of four authors is allowed, provided one is a doctoral-level researcher in a research group.
1.29 Authors must detail each contributor’s role following the CRediT taxonomy (e.g., Conceptualization, Data Curation, Writing – Original Draft). Contributions are listed in the author’s mini-CV section at the end of the references. More information at https://credit.niso.org/ or https://blog.scielo.org/blog/2020/01/23/devemos-adotar-ferramentas-para-diferenciar-as-contribuicoes-em-trabalhos-academicos/.
1.30 Authors must declare that the manuscript is original and not under review elsewhere. Failure to submit this declaration will result in automatic rejection at desk review.
1.31 An anti-plagiarism tool will be used to verify the originality of submissions.
1.32 Under Brazilian Copyright Law (Law No. 9.610/1998), authors are solely responsible for opinions, concepts, writing style, and accuracy and fidelity of cited sources.
1.33 Submission implies transfer of first-publication copyright to the journal. Subsequent reuse requires prior authorization and must cite the original publication in Práxis Educacional, following the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
1.34 All authors must have an ORCID identifier (register at https://orcid.org/register) and include it in the submission metadata. Manuscripts from authors without verifiable ORCID records will be automatically rejected.
1.35 Submissions with discrepancies between portal metadata and submitted files will not pass desk review and will be automatically rejected.
1.36 Submission and editorial approval dates are recorded automatically in the system.
1.37 The minimum processing time is six months, but this may vary based on submission quality, reviewer availability, and system stability.
1.38 The editorial team is responsible for the integrity of the editorial process and for responding to queries from authors, reviewers, or any members of the scientific community.
