Higher education in Mozambique faces significant challenges but also presents opportunities that can drive the development of human capital and the construction of national identity. Among the main challenges are the scarcity of financial resources, the lack of adequate infrastructure, and the need for qualified teacher training. These factors limit access to and the quality of higher education, hindering the formation of skilled professionals who can contribute to the country's socioeconomic development. On the other hand, there are opportunities that can be explored to strengthen higher education. The growing demand for specialized training, driven by economic development and globalization, creates room for the expansion of higher education institutions and course diversification. Moreover, the implementation of educational policies aimed at inclusion and promoting equity can facilitate access to higher education for marginalized groups, contributing to the construction of a more plural and representative national identity. Collaboration between educational institutions, the private sector, and the government is essential to creating an environment that fosters innovation and research—key elements for the development of human capital. By promoting higher education as a means to strengthen national identity, Mozambique can empower its population, stimulating creativity and entrepreneurship, and consequently boosting the country’s social and economic progress.
