This text intends to reflect on the figuration of the myth of Prometheus in the poetry of Murilo Mendes. Prometheus frequently appears in the work of the Minas Gerais poet, revealing a kind of ideal for his poetic creation: the elaboration of the poem through rational work and the investigation of the human in the plane of thought. Prometheus is “the one who enlightens”, who brings light to humanity. His presence can be noticed through appropriations, stylizations, parodies and paraphrases, in which the poet revisits the myth, reworking it and bringing it to the modern world, becoming an essential element for understanding Murilian poetics.Abstract
