Abstract

How can we look and truly see what surrounds us? Interpellated by neoliberal ideology that tells us we must be masters of our own destiny, that we are responsible for what happens to us, that there is no time to waste, we are always running after something, in a hurry. On one of those ordinary days, living the “infraordinary” as I was heading to the university, I came across a wall along the way: Look (Olhar). So I look and see, in a second of attention to the present moment. It seems the city speaks, it tells me something. A piece of graffiti, on an ordinary wall in the city of Chapecó (SC). Look. I stop and look; from this relationship with this discourse—both verbal and visual—I begin to produce meaning. What is the difference between looking and seeing? Let us then see where my gaze will lead me.
