A PRIMAZIA DO SILÊNCIO: JERUSALÉM DE GONÇALO M. TAVARES

Abstract

This article undertakes a reflection about the silences presents in the artistic text, since they are amenable to aesthetic investigation. The silences populate the narrative of the Jerusalem - object of this study - by the portuguese writer Gonçalo M. Tavares. These are masterfully constructed silences that open themselves in a range of possibilities of meaning. There is in the text positive silences and negative silences, although in spite of the last category, due to the high tone of violence of the narrative. In any case, the understanding of the senses of the silences concurs for the understanding of the work as a whole. In order to perform the analysis process, studies related to the silence of Santiago Kovadloff (2003), David Le Breton (1999), Eni Orlandi (2007), and George Steiner (1988), among others, are convoked. It aims to contribute to the debate surrounding the importance of understanding the meanings of the silences that inhabit the literary text.
