This article presents part of a study conducted in an English classroom at a public school in the interior of Bahia. It involves the composition of the My English Journal (MEJ), inspired by diaries that integrate planning and self-knowledge, in addition to the insertion of artistic elements and the stimulation of the expression of creativity. The objective of the study was to indicate the motivating potential of the application of activities through which the learner uses the language in a more meaningful way and in a way that is consistent with their social, cultural and subjective context. The self-representation through written language stands out, which provides an opportunity to express oneself with a defined and relevant purpose, based on the view of language as a social practice. Discourse is conceived here as loaded with meaning and value that reflects and represents the individuality of those who produce it. In the end, it was concluded that the activities developed presented themselves as a motivating strategy, encouraging the students' learning autonomy, promoting their creativity and valuing their voice and culture. The autonomous integration of technological resources and the internet was also noted, which helped in the composition of the written work.
