Abstract

The issue of corruption is characterized by encompassing studies in the political, economic and cultural spheres. It is an active role, in the sense of influencing and shaping the functioning of a country's economy, politics and culture, but also a passive role, as it arises and develops from these contexts. Despite the harmful effects they cause to society, corrupt practices persist and can be stimulated by distorted views about the political, economic and cultural conceptions that qualify the concept of corruption. Some of these narratives (quasi-myths), analyzed by Matthew Stephenson, are widespread and capable of inhibiting attempts to fight corruption effectively.
