Abstract

This article aims to measure the pay gap and gender discrimination, for individuals who have achieved first job in the formal labor market in the state of Bahia, from the microdata of RAIS 2013. With use of the Oaxaca-Blinder wage decomposition, observed the existence of sex discrimination in the first hire in the state and came to the result that discrimination against women is lower in the first job than on condition of remaining workers. Gender discrimination in the first job is more intense among white individuals than non-white and the characteristic that most contributed to this discrimination has been productive (human capital), the productive factors of men are more valued by the market compared to women. The occupation has a negative effect on the wages of women, which reinforces the hypothesis that women are better placed in the formal labor market (occupations that have higher yields) than men in Bahia.
