The semantic relation between verbal and nonverbal language in comic strips based on the argumentative semantics

Abstract

ABSTRACT
Based on principles and concepts especially of the Argumentative Theory of Polyphony, this study aims to verify if the meaning relation between verbal and nonverbal language, in the comic strip textual genre, is controlled by the linguistic. For that, there has been built up, in two comic strips, the matrix of sense of the utterances which comprises the argumentative content, the speaker’s attitude about the content and the person who is responsible for the content. It could be verified that the meaning of the comic strips that contain only nonverbal language is foreseen in the verbal language, by its relation with the argumentative aspects of the semantic block which the verbal language allows to evoke.

Telisa Furlanetto Graeff, Universidade de Passo Fundo (UPF/ Brasil)

Telisa Furlanetto Graeff é Doutora em Letras ‒ Linguística Aplicada pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul em 2001, com estágio pós-doutoral no Center de Recherches sur les Arts et le Langage, da École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris, sob a orientação da Maître de conférences (HDR) à l'EHESS, Marion Carel, em 2011. Foi professora da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul e da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul. Atualmente é professora Titular da Universidade de Passo Fundo, onde atua na graduação em Letras e na pós-graduação ‒ mestrado e doutorado em Letras. Tem experiência na área de linguística, com ênfase em teoria e análise linguística e ensino de língua materna.

Lauro Gomes, Universidade de Passo Fundo (UPF/ Brasil)

Lauro Gomes é Mestre em Letras pela Universidade de Passo Fundo em 2014. Foi professor de língua portuguesa das redes privada e pública estadual de ensino de Passo Fundo. Atualmente, dedica-se à realização de estudos e pesquisas na linha de Constituição e Interpretação do Texto e do Discurso (CITD), do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras da Universidade de Passo Fundo (PPGL/UPF). Tem experiência na área de Letras, com ênfase em língua portuguesa.
