IMPACT OF THE USE OF PREBIOTICS AND PROBIOTICS AS A THERAPEUTIC MEASURE FOR THE RECOVERY OF THE MICROBIOTA IN CHILDREN WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER - INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

O presente artigo apresenta como objetivo analisar o papel clínico do uso de prebióticos e probióticos no manejo de distúrbios gastrointestinais em pacientes com transtorno do espectro autista, bem como descrever as evidências acerca dos benefícios associados. Esta pesquisa consiste em uma revisão integrativa da literatura realizada por meio das bases de dados National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health (PUBMED e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), publicadas no período de 2012 a 2022. Foram identificados 954 artigos inicialmente e 12 foram incluídos para a revisão. Os probióticos mais frequentes foram Lactobacillus e o Bifidobacteria longum, responsáveis por gerar melhora global dos sintomas gastrointestinais de constipação, dor abdominal e diarreia, e melhora do comportamento social do TEA. Esses probióticos agem a partir da produção de neurotransmissores incluindo dopamina, norepinefrina, serotonina, ácido 4-aminobutírico (GABA), acetilcolina e histamina, que podem modular os níveis de serotonina e dopamina no cérebro, regulando os sintomas de irritabilidade, estereotipia e hiperatividade associada ao TEA. Portanto, faz-se necessária a realização de ensaios clínicos de longa duração a fim de avaliar o impacto do uso de probióticos e prebióticos para as sintomatologias geradas pelo TEA, podendo contribuir para melhora da qualidade de vida desses pacientes.
