We aimed to analyze the mental health of users of psychoactive substances (PAS) having as parameter the presence of psychiatric comorbidities and suicide risk. This is exploratory-descriptive research with a quantitative approach developed at a Psychosocial Care Center and at Family Health Strategy in a municipality of the 11th Health Regional of Ceará state (11th CRES). We interviewed 51 users of psychoactive substances, from February to June of 2019, using the sociodemographic formulary; Self-Reporting Questionnaire, a questionnaire about an individual’s health or for evaluating depression; and the Suicide Risk Index. Most users were male (n=33; 64,7%), age gap between 31 to 50 years old (n=24; 47,0%), mulattos (n=36; 70,6%), with common mental disorder (n=28; 54,9%), with greater depressive episode (n=24; 47,1%), and intermediate suicide risk (n=25; 49,0%). Such results suggest that users of PAS which present psychiatric comorbidities are more vulnerable to suicide risk. In this context, we recommend a comprehensive and multidisciplinary care plan with strategies for monitoring existing comorbidities and the suicide risk.
