Abstract

The This article reports and analyzes an exploratory task applied to a PROFMAT class in the Topics in Mathematics course. The task aimed to answer the following question: Is it possible to determine the decimal period corresponding to any fraction with a denominator of 11 without performing division? The task implementation and discussion steps not only enabled students to arrive at the answer but also to find a generalization of the problem to non-decimal number systems.

He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Faculdade São Francisco de Barreiras- FASB (2009), a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from the State University of Bahia - UNEB (2012), a Master's Degree in Mathematics from the Federal University of Tocantins - UFT (2014) and a PhD in Science Education and Mathematics from the Graduate Program in Science and Mathematics Teaching- PPGECM at the Federal University of Goiás - UFG. He is currently a tenured Professor at the Federal University of Western Bahia - UFOB. He has experience in Mathematics, working mainly on the following topics: mathematics and music, differential calculus, and Mathematics Education.

Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and specialist in Higher Education Methodology. Master's degree in Education. PhD in Education from the University of Brasília. Researcher in Mathematics Education. Professional experience: 1) in Basic Education as a mathematics teacher and area coordinator in public and private schools; 2) in Higher Education as a professor in the Bachelor's Degree Programs in Mathematics and Pedagogy and Coordinator of the Higher Normal Course; 3) in postgraduate studies as a professor of the Specialization Programs in Mathematics Education, Psychopedagogy, and Higher Education Methodology; 4) in teacher training courses for young people and adults, the Aja Bahia Program, and Brasil Alfabetizado; 5) in consulting in the areas of teacher training in refresher courses promoted by the Municipal Departments of Education of the Western Region of Bahia. 6) coordinated the Mathematics Education Laboratory of Campus IX of UNEB; 7) worked in the PROLETRAMENTO Program as pedagogical coordinator of the Mathematics area in the training of teachers in the State of Bahia, coordinated by UNEB - Campus IX - Barreiras. 8) worked as a trainer of tutors in the Mathematics area in the PNAIC Training Program-National Pact for Literacy at the Right Age, in the Federal District. 9) She is currently an adjunct professor at the Center for Exact Sciences and Technologies in the area of Mathematics Teaching at the Federal University of Western Bahia, working in the area of Mathematics Education in the initial teacher training, in the Mathematics Degree course. 10) She works as a professor in the Professional Master's Program PROFMAT, supervising research carried out by master's students, Basic Education teachers. 11) Member of the following Research Groups: Study and Research Group in Mathematics and Mathematics Teaching - UFOB; Mathematics Education Research Group at UnB - GIEM/UnB, participating in the Research Project on Lesson Study in the initial and continuing education of mathematics teachers. Edmo Fernandes Carvalho, Universidade Federal da Bahia: Salvador, BR

Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Catholic University of Salvador (2004). Master's and PhD in Teaching, Philosophy and History of Sciences - PPGEFHC, from the Federal University of Bahia and State University of Feira de Santana (2015 and 2019). Professor in the Interdisciplinary Bachelor's Degree in Science and Technology at the Institute of Humanities, Arts and Sciences Professor Milton Santos - Federal University of Bahia - UFBA. He is also a permanent professor in the Postgraduate Program in Interdisciplinary Studies on the University - PPGEISU / UFBA (2025) and a collaborator in the Postgraduate Program in Teaching (PPGE / Federal University of Western Bahia). He was a permanent professor in the Professional Master's Degree in Mathematics - PROFMAT / UFOB. He is the leader of the Interdisciplinary Center for Research, Teaching and Didactics of Sciences, Mathematics and Technologies - NIPEDICMT / UFBA (2024 - current). He has experience in the Area of Mathematics Education, with research in the field of Experimental Epistemology, Anthropology of Didactics and its interrelationships with Cognitive Neuroscience and Decolonial Didactics.
