The idea of presenting this text as an open essay aims both to reinforce its speculative aspect and its inconclusive aspect. Our idea is to point out anti-blackness as an organizing mode of Brazil's foundational myths, seeking to suggest that there is an inseparability between the myth of racial democracy and the foundation myths. For this, we point as the origin of the myth of racial democracy the novel Iracema by Alencar, and not the modernist scenes that, for us, update the myths, but do not found them. To this end,we will discuss issues related to the problem of cultural dependency and the production of national identity in Brazilian modernism, seeking to briefly connect them with the production of a nationality linked to anti-blackness.
