Black and white women and motherhood: gender and race issues in the health field

In the discourses of women on maternity, second schooling and race / ethnicity, it is observed that different discursive positions are articulated. As a general trend there is an approximation of discourses related to "modern social constructs" on maternity, characteristic of modernity. We found differences in the discourses that highlight the group of black women of high school of the other groups of schooling. It is in this group of women that discursive aspects related to the "essentialist" conceptions of motherhood, that is, naturalized, breaking the tendency of progressive "desensitization" are emphasized, with greater recurrence, as the education of the same ones rises. Conceptions of motherhood presented by black and white women allow us to reflect on the weight and historical construction of the place occupied in society by black and white women and on the transversality of gender race / ethnicity in the field of reproductive health.
