Abstract

This is an excerpt from a master's dissertation aimed at examining vulnerabilities in ethnic-racial relations that are related to the mental health of black women. The study, of a qualitative nature, was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of UESB and conducted between December 2021 and April 2022 at the Interdisciplinary Center for Studies and Extension in Family Health Care in Coexistence with Chronic Diseases (NIEFAM), with ten adult-elderly women. A questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, and field diaries were used. The data were analyzed using the interactive model suggested by Miles andHuberman. The results revealed that, in the face of self-declared ethnicity/race, the phenomenon of 'pardoization' prevailed as an influential factor in altering the participants' perception of how they understand racism. It was identified that none of the women had access to mental health services in Basic Health Units, except for those registered with NIEFAM. Mental health emerges as a care that must be addressed comprehensively from the entry point of the Unified Health System, as a public policy for women's health dimensions. The study supports reflection on the subject matter and the need to expand knowledge about the intersectionality between social sciences, humanities, and health
