Disputas e controvérsias nas redes sociais em torno do papel do Banco do Brasil na escravidão

Abstract

The present article is based on an bibliographic research aimed at stimulating debates on the ways in which institutions and personalities have endeavored to obscure or even deny the significant contribution of the multitudes of enslaved Africans who arrived here, in large part, for the enrichment of the country. Additionally, it relies on a netnographic research with the purpose of discussing the controversies and polemics in electronic media surrounding the accusations of involvement and enrichment of the Banco do Brasil with the slave-based economic model and illegal slave trade. Furthermore, the study aims to highlight that the recurrent attempts to erase or deny the history of abuse, violence, and persecution against Africans and their descendants reinforce the understanding that the recognition and appreciation of the contribution of Black individuals largely depend on the ongoing exercise of revisiting the past and the faithful and proper treatment of history.
